Lawyers may mention their cases via Skype for selected types of short hearings instead of having to personally attending court.
You may dial into your
court hearings using Skype if your case is on one of the following selected hearing lists and fulfils
the following criteria
- Ex-parte summons list (Wednesday mornings)
- Garnishee list (Tuesday and Thursday afternoons)
- Summons for Directions (Tuesdays and Thursdays)
Registrar matters (every day)
This section presumes that you have an existing Skype account. If you do not, please create a Skype account here.
a. Log into your Skype account and set your status to 'available'.
b. You may access the relevant hearing list by clicking here.
c. Check the chambers assigned to hear your case.
d. Then identify the corresponding Skype contact from amongst the following:

Send an instant message to the relevant Chambers using Skype to inform the judge that you are ready and state your name, law firm and case number, e.g., if your matter is fixed for hearing in Chambers J, you will send your message to "StateCts_CivilReg_ChJ". Your instant message will state "John Tan, ABC Law Firm, ready at 3:15, MC 12345/20XX/A". Note that the judge will not call you unless you have previously sent a message to indicate your readiness to proceed with the Skype hearing.
f. When the judge is ready to deal with your matter, he/she will call you. Accept the video call and start the hearing. Do not attempt to call the judge.
g. If you encounter any
problems, you may call the Civil Registry at 6435 5868 for assistance.
h. If the problems cannot be resolved, you may be required to personally attend Court to mention your case.4. What must I observe during the Skype hearing?
Court Etiquette - Even though you are not physically in court, you must still observe Court etiquette as if you are appearing before a judge. You must comply with all Court rules of etiquette as prescribed in the State Courts Practice Directions (PD) and/or any relevant Registrar's Circulars. You may access the State Courts Practice Directions here. Adjournment of Skype hearings - There may be occasions when a case is unsuitable for Skype hearings. For instance, the case may turn contentious or there may be technical difficulties. If, for any reason, the presiding Judge or Registrar considers that it is not expedient for any hearing to continue via Skype, he or she may: a. adjourn the matter and require parties to attend Court personally on an appointed date and time; b. conduct the hearing via telephone; or c. make any other direction that may be appropriate in the circumstances of the case. Recording of Skype hearings in video, audio or any other form is strictly prohibited.

6. Frequently Asked Questions
a. How do I register for Skype? You need to have a Skype Account in order to use Skype. To download or create a new account, please refer to http://www.skype.com/en/ for more information.b. I don't have a Skype account. Can I still use Skype for hearing? No. You need to have a Skype Account in order to use Skype.c. Do I have to add State Courts Skype Account first before the hearing? Yes. You have to add State Courts Skype account in order to use the Video Call function. Otherwise, the function is disabled. d. What are the types of hearing used for Skype? Please refer to Question 2 above.
e. Who should I contact regarding Skype
If you encounter any problems, you may call the Civil
Registry at 6435 5868 for assistance.
Please note that our officers are only
available between Monday and Friday, from 9 am to 12.30 pm and 2 pm to 5.30 pm.
If the problems cannot be resolved, the Judge or Registrar may direct you to
personally attend Court to mention your case.
f. I cannot see the Judge
when he/she called in. What should I do?
You must accept the "Video Call" when the Judge calls. If the
problems cannot be resolved, please check the Webcam settings from your end.

Courts Skype Account IDs?

i. I have sent a message to
a particular Chambers but the Judge did not reply. Can I call the Judge
Do not attempt to call the Judge. The Judge will call you once he/she is ready
to hear your case. Alternatively, you
may also contact the Civil Registry for assistance.
j. How do I know which Skype Chambers to log into for my hearing?
