1. Freelance Court Interpreters (Foreign Language)

You are expected to render accurate and professional interpretation in English and native/acquired language.

Requirements:

 Qualifications

  • University degree
  • Able to speak one or more foreign languages
  • Offered English and native/ acquired language as a curriculum subject
  • Passed both English and the native/ acquired language subjects throughout academic life
  • Obtained a Test of English as a Foreign Language (*TOEFL) or International English Language Testing System (*IELTS) certificate as an attestation of your skills in the English language and attained at least a grade 6 in the test (for those who have not offered English as one of the main curriculum subjects)

     

Experience

  • Applicants who do not possess a degree but have the required language skills through life experience, for example, a bilingual upbringing, residence abroad or regular work with speakers of a designated language will also be considered
  • Pre-entry experience is not a must but relevant/related experience in this field will be an advantage. Applicants with experience should provide testimonials from organizations which have benefitted from your interpretation services

      

Special Attributes / Knowledge 

  • Able to perform consecutive interpretation in both English and native/ acquired language
  • Possess strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Familiarity with courtroom decorum and legal terminology will be advantageous
  • Positive attitude and willing to learn
  • Self-motivated towards excellence
  • Service-oriented
  • Meticulous
  • Able to work under pressure in a group setting
     

2. Freelance Court Interpreters (Chinese/Malay/Tamil)

You are expected to render accurate and professional interpretation in English and Mandarin/ Malay/ Tamil &/ or dialects.

Requirements:

Qualifications

You must possess at least one of the following qualifications:

  • A University degree majoring in Chinese/ Malay/ Tamil studies or English
  • A University degree in any other discipline with at least a B4 credit in Chinese/ Malay/ Tamil at GCE 'AO'/ H1 level and a B4 credit in General Paper (GP)
  • A University degree or diploma in Translation and/or Interpretation specializing in Chinese/ Malay/ Tamil Languages
  • A diploma in any discipline, with at least a B4 credit in GCE 'O' level in English and Chinese/ Malay/ Tamil
  • 2 'A'/ H2 level and 2 'AO'/ H1 level passes with at least a B4 credit in Chinese/ Malay/ Tamil and a B4 credit in General Paper (GP)

 

Special Attributes / Knowledge

  • Able to perform consecutive interpretation in both English and Chinese/ Malay/ Tamil languages
  • Proficient in at least one local Chinese dialect (for Chinese applicants)
  • Possess strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Familiarity with courtroom decorum and legal terminology will be advantageous
  • Positive attitude and willing to learn
  • Self-motivated towards excellence
  • Service-oriented
  • Meticulous
  • Able to work under pressure in a group setting

Short-listed applicants will be required to sit for a pre-selection test.
